DAMAGE TO THE HERON WAY PLAY PARK
Stoke Parish Council (Kent)
We are very saddened to learn that one of the bins in the Heron Way Play Park appears to have been deliberately set alight, or been the subject of an attempted act of arson.
Vandalism of any kind is extremely disappointing, particularly in a community space that is enjoyed by our residents and their families. We are currently assessing the damage and will work to ensure the area remains safe for all users.
What is perhaps even more concerning is that this incident suggests that lighters or matches may have been brought into a children's play area. As well as causing damage to community property, this poses a significant safety risk. Despite the recent downpours, we have experienced a prolonged period of hot, dry weather and a fire could easily have spread beyond the bin, resulting in far more serious consequences. More importantly, it could have put children and other park users at risk of injury.
This incident will be reported to Kent Police, and we will update this post with the crime reference number once it has been received.
If anyone has any information that may assist with enquiries, please contact Kent Police quoting the crime reference number when available.
Thank you for your support.
